The hubby turned the big 36 on Saturday. The hubby's birthday is the day before St. Patrick's Day. I guess I am just stating facts by telling you that because something like that only really matters to people who party. For "old" people like us having your b-day the day before St. Patrick's Day is pretty much like having your b-day before Arbor Day. The in-laws drove down from Nor Cal to help us celebrate. We decided that a nice low-stress b-day celebration would be lunch at Liberty Station and then we can let the kids run wild at the park after. Everything was really nice except for one moment where I was left feeling like the Mom who gets slapped by her kid in the middle of Starbucks and doesn't do anything about it. Here is what happened. Lovelyn is having a great time, ate pretty well, had fun helping Dad open presents now we were just waiting for Happy Birthday song a little dessert and then it is park time. She was super excited to fly her cat-kite and was carrying around with her all day. I tell her that Mommy has arranged for a special dessert for Daddy's birthday and that we are all going to sing Happy Birthday. She gives me that look like "whatever" and goes about her business. A minute later the waiter walks in with the dessert and about 15 of us bust into Happy Birthday. Next thing you know I hear my daughter crying and running towards me. I am dressed up a little bit so I have high heeled boots on. I crouch down to give my daughter the big hug that I know she is running towards me for….that is when she puts her hands out and pushes me over with me falling on my ass in the middle of the restaurant. My gut reaction is to yell at her cause she #1 just pushed her Mom and #2 did it in front of a room full of people. But I took a breath for a second and realize that the reason she is acting this way is cause my daughter is a big scaredy cat and I'm sure the loud singing scared her and she was trying to run away from the noise…………my sensitive little soul! How can I get mad at my daughter when she is scared. After it all calmed down I talked to her about why she did that and she told me she was scared cause it was so loud. That is when we had a talk about how to react when you are scared and to come tell a trusted adult instead of running away. So embarrassing but I guess that is part of what being a parent is all about. Besides that little moment it was a wonderful day.
