This morning (Sunday May 5) I was sitting at a red light when I heard a honk. I looked to my right and an older gentleman was motioning for me to roll my window down. I assumed he was going to tell me I had a flat tire or broken taillight but he pointed to the rear of my car and asked "is that your dad?" referring to the memorial sticker I have on the rear window of my car with my dad's name, birth/death date (Oct 2011) and Vietnam Veteran. I replied 'yeah, that's my dad' and the man saluted me. My eyes started to water and while trying holding back tears, I thanked him and told him my dad would've loved that. He then told me his father-in-law was a POW in Vietnam and choking on my words, I could only say "God Bless him". The man said "God Bless your father", rolled his window back up and as the light turned green I wondered if he could see me wiping away tears. My dad used to tell me storiesabout the horrible treatment he and his fellow Vietnam Veterans received when they returned home and how much it broke his heart so thank you for the random act of kindness, sir.
