It was not a good day at Chargers Park yesterday. The news came down in the morning that former Chargers running back Chuck Muncie had passed away. He is one of the all time great Chargers. In fact, he is second to only LT on the all time rush list for the Bolts. He had battled a severe drug problem back in the day and had been doing pretty good as far as I knew. I had interviewed him a couple times over the course of my Chargers broadcast career. He was a good guy. Then the news broke in the afternoon that last year's #1 draft pick Melvin Ingram suffered a torn ACL during practice. That is devastating for the Chargers hopes this season. He was going to play a huge role on the defense. And now he is lost for the year. Awful. I was really looking forward to seeing him progress this year. I like what he brings to the table. The question is, now what? You lost both Shaun Phillips and Antwan Barnes to free agency, so who is gonna line up at outside linebacker? Jarret Johnson lines up at one spot, but he is more of a run stuffer. Who is gonna put pressure on the QB? They don't have anybody. Reports are that Dwight Freeney is on his way to town for a visit. Yes please. Sign him. They need him bad. He has history with Chargers GM Tom Telesco. He isn't the devastating pass rusher he used to be, but he is still good. And it's not like there are a ton of options out there right now. Sign him today.
