New Dads and New Parents [especially you Massholes]
This is my New Dad find of the week..
Its a rad diaper bag.. And I know its humorous just saying "rad diaper bag".. but if we gotta rock one, may as well be a diaper bag reppin' the Red Sox.
I want to find a Celtics bag.
Speaking of Bostonian apparel for my child. There was this phenomenon that happened afta the 2004 Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years, the "Pink Hat Trend". Red Sox popularity exploded and became trendy.. with being trendy comes trendy fashion. And to push Sox gear to the masses, we saw a lot of womens and girls clothing being pushed out there knowing that ladies love to shop, so lets give them something to buy.. and the Pink Hat was born. Then women could thinkt hey look cute while reppin' a winning teams merch. This is when the war began. The war of real fans vs. bandwagon fans. The real fans could detect a bandwagoner in a crowd from the recognition of a pink hat. It was a dead giveaway. Real fans didnt have many options when it came to a sucky teams gear.. the team usuallly only put out the regular teams colors for hats clothes etc. (Note that in todays culture its wicked popular for every team to have their logo in every design and every color, even other teams colors which I have seem and believe is blasphemy). I may have began rambling by now but there is some coherency to my rant... it's this. I kept saying I didnt want (if we have a girl) for her to wear pink Boston apparell. I wanted her to be able to wear the regular teams colors. I didnt think girls needed to wear pink adn they could wear the original colors like every otha fan. I began to think that people would think my daughter is a bandwagon fan if she was caught wearing a pink hat...... AND THAT IS WHEN I HAD TO STOP MYSELF. At that point I realized, wow, I may be wicked die hard but now it's a little too fanatical. I just need to relax and know that no one is going to heckle my newborn daughter if she wears pink Red Sox gear. Crazy, right? Well not really when you come from a place where Sports is Religion. The Boston Culture is one where your pets are named afta Boston Sports Legends like Larry or Bruschi.. A culture where afta Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl in 2003, there was a baby boom in New England and we now see a generation of 10 year old children all named Brady or Tom. No joke. It may seem crazy to a San Diegoan but its where I'm from, its real, and I love it. There is a sense of community pride like nothing else on this earth. Nothing can compete. Nothing. Boston is uniquely its own world on earth. And I dont feel crazy saying that if we have a girl I want my daughter wearing the original Red Sox Celtics Patriots and Bruins colors.. none of this pink stuff. Hahaha Welcome to Boston.. We love our teams and we take this sports thing seriously.
I love hearing when otha new parents say that fatherhood will come to me instinctually.. I love instinct. May be my favorite human characteristic. Instinct, ya know, the thing animals (not in captivity) act on. Its rad. It's the bare basics of our survival. Its raw. Its beautiful. And I m anxious to know how my instincts will kick in. I know parents and dads have been doing this since the dawn of time.. but its my time and it feels super important to me. I have so many emotions, I feel like a pubescent teen. My bottom line is I want the best for my child, which every decent parent has said since the dawn of time. I know I'm being wicked cliche' in almost everything but I'm wicked amped on becoming a dad for the first time. And I'll find my own unique ecclectic way to parent.
